BUMP Roadworks: Part 3

All the artists who painted one to five barriers this year are listed on BUMP’s website, go check out their work!

Basic steps for all barriers: Prime, base yellow/purple coats, freehand outlines, re-prime silhouettes (purple barriers only), yellow/purple silhouette base coats, accent blends, wipe and re-prime details and edges (yellow barriers only), details and edges cleanup.

Barrier A, face 1: White-tailed jackrabbit, silly goose, mountain ash

Barrier A, face 2: Bobcat, leafcutter bee, mountain ash

Barrier B, face 1: Plains garter snake, saskatoon berries and flowers

Barrier B, face 2: Pileated woodpecker, little brown bat, white mustard butterfly, saskatoon berries

Barrier C, face 1: Ruddy duck, mink, prickly rose. My ruddy duck birb was blessed by a real bird <3

Barrier C, face 2: Mink, bison, prickly rose

Barrier D, face 1: Swift fox, Richardson's ground squirrels, blue grama

Barrier D, face 2: Harlequin duck, westslope cutthroat trout, blue grama

All four barriers at various stages! Painting them semi-concurrently helped a lot with time management and mental capacity

Despite my grumblings about the deadly sun and long drives, I always enjoy painting outdoors. The painting site was just south of a bird sanctuary, and throughout the day, above the din of traffic and construction, you could hear birds calling as they flew past (lots of killdeer). Lots of ladybugs came to visit me and my supplies, and one time there was a big blue spider on a barrier. Not bad company!

I have a rough idea of where these barriers are in the city, so hopefully soon I’ll have photos of them out in the real world!
